What did the community feedback reveal?

The VeteransAffairs thread centered on finding a practice that actually accepts the referral. The VeteransBenefits thread described inconsistent outreach, provider listings, and coordination across offices, while also including favorable experiences. The psychologists’ thread included different provider experiences with referrals, payment, documentation, and renewals. We do not reproduce personal medical details or treat any commenter’s interpretation of law as authoritative.

Which sources control the guidance?

For eligibility, referrals, and authorizations, use VA’s eligibility page and VA’s referral guide. For chronic pain and TBI, use VA Whole Health and VA Polytrauma/TBI. Rules and services can change, and your VA team decides what applies to your case.

We also checked newer guidance against the older comments: VA says precertification is no longer required for authorized care as of September 8, 2026. That change does not remove the need for a VA referral and authorization for routine Community Care.

What does Valor claim?

Valor provides a home-based chronic pain program described on valor.health. These pages do not state that Valor is a VA Community Care network provider, that VA will pay for it, or that it has an approved mTBI treatment indication.
